Every blogger knows that Twitter is a great tool when it comes to promoting and marketing content, however, it does have to be used effectively in order to actually make a difference.
Many bloggers start using Twitter, knowing that it can do wonders when it comes to marketing. Unfortunately, most end up wasting their energy by following everyone and not gathering followers properly, only to give up entirely on this social media platform after a few months.
There is a sort of social network hygiene that is required in order to ensure that you successfully use a tool as powerful as Twitter. This is due to the fact that there is usually a lot of noise on social media platforms, and the only way to successfully reach the people that you are interested in is by getting rid of the rest.
In other words, it is important to understand the importance of un-following people who aren’t following you. Those individuals are not interested in what you have to offer and they represent dead end when it comes to marketing.
Unfortunately, as time passes and a Twitter account grows, unfollowing non-followers becomes a tedious job due to the sheer amount of time that it takes to navigate through the list of people that you follow and to see if they also follow you.
Luckily, there are a few tools that can help you get this job done will little effort. But you will first have to answer a few questions for yourself.
First of all, you should consider if you enjoy reading their tweets, or if you personally know them. If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you may want to keep that particular follower. If not, then press “Unfollow”.
This having been said, let’s take a look at a few great tools that will help you unfollow people that are not following you on Twitter:
- ManageFlitter
ManageFlitter is one of the most popular tools in this category, even though it is still in beta. It basically allows you to select several accounts and then to press only one button in order to unfollow them.
The tool also offers some other features, giving you the ability to determine which ones are fake Twitter followers or to find the ones that are the most active in terms of sent tweets.
Other than that, it will help you better manage your Twitter account. It’s a great free tool to use.
- Tweepi Geeky Flush
Another interesting, extremely useful tool that you can use to get rid of non-followers is Geeky Flush. This tool is relatively simple to use. It will allow you to sort through your list of followers and unfollow the ones that you want. Keep in mind that this one is not as fast as ManageFlitter, but it does have a better interface and it is better for the casual user.
- CrowdFire
While it was initially known as “JustUnfollow”, CrowdFire remains the best free tool when it comes to unfollowing non-followers on Twitter. The sheer amount of functionality that it offers makes it an incredible choice, however, it is not entirely free.
The tool will enable you to sort non-followers using several filters, such as the date when they started following you. Unfortunately, you can only unfollow or follow a maximum of 25 people per day, through the free version of CrowdFire. This daily limit can be increased, however, you will have to pay a monthly subscription.
In terms of mobility, CrowdFire offers Android and IOS versions and is probably the best Twitter management tool that you can install on your smartphone.
Choose the tool that best suits your needs and that you find the easiest to work with. If you make habit of unfollowing people who don’t follow you back you will see that your Twitter feed will quickly become a lot more pleasant to go through and the marketing dead-ends will be gone.
As a word of warning, do not unfollow the Twitter accounts of blogs or companies, as they rarely actually follow someone back and you may need the information that they provide.
