Social media is the fastest growing industry on the planet. Ever since the first social media networks appeared, more and more companies have been either trying to get in on the action and create a new app or channel or spending money in order to take advantage of these efficient marketing tools.
If you look closer, you will find that this sector has grown even faster than the internet itself. While the internet only offered access to information, social media channels have changed the game. They also offer people an easy, inexpensive way to communicate, to create and share content, and to network on a global level.
In order to understand the speed at which the popularity of social networks has grown, consider the fact that the Internet gathered a user base of 1 billion in the first 10 years of being publicly available! Facebook, on the other hand, which came online on September 26, 2009, hit its 1.49 billion monthly active users’ mark in June, 2015.
One in five people on the planet has a Facebook account. Just for the sake of the comparison, there are more Facebook users on the planet than there are if the United States had 5 times it’s current population!
It is important to keep in mind that the number refers to “active” monthly users, so only those who check their accounts at least once per month have been counted – which makes these numbers even more impressive.
This makes learning how to use social media for marketing purposes extremely important to all business owners, bloggers, freelancers, and any other individuals that need to advertise.
Below you will find a list of the 15 most popular platforms currently available, as well as important tips that will help you build a successful marketing strategy
However, in order to better understand how these channels work, it is important to understand what is social media marketing.
In essence, social media marketing could be defined as being the process of creating content that is specifically tailored for each individual social media platform, in order to engage the users and to facilitate the sharing of additional content.
This form of marketing will help you gain traffic; however, this will only happen as long as you create content for each of the platforms. Keep in mind that what works on Twitter will not work on Facebook, for example. Follow the tips in this guide and you will have greater chances of creating viral content.
Remember that the end goal is to impress the user to such a degree that he will share the news with friends and family, thus increasing your audience.
Overview
Most individuals are aware of the largest social networks that are online; however, this does not mean that those are the only ones, or that your campaign should include only them.
If you go on Wikipedia, you will find a list of over 200 social networks that could be considered in order to maximize your marketing efforts and ensure that your campaign is successful.
Equally important is the fact that the list is quite different from one that was made 10 years ago. Companies constantly launch and take down social networks, and you must keep your eye on those that are becoming popular, in order to include them into your strategies.
At the beginning of your marketing campaign, it is a good idea to focus on the networks that have been around for a few years, as these are the ones that have proven to be the most stable. This will save you the trouble of designing content for a network, only to find that it has lost its popularity a few months later.
Also, do not try to speculate which social channel you think will gain popularity in the future and start making content for it, as the industry is extremely volatile, and you may find that your efforts have been in vain.
Make a Facebook page and a Twitter account, and start from there. These two are the most popular, and the most stable in terms of popularity and number of active users.
Social Media Terms:
- Content: Everything you post on the web is classified as content. From Facebook status updates, photos posted on Instagram, to tweets, everything is viewed as content.
- Context: This one is self-explanatory. You have to pay attention to what you post and where. For example, blog posts are great if you want to emphasize the general idea of something into a large 3000-4000 word text, but it will make smaller details that you specify in the material practically invisible. Twitter, on the other hand, is great for short messages – every word counts.
- Hashtags: Hashtags have been around for quite some time. These are a way through which users on social media networks can add meta information to their content. Every network, from Twitter and Facebook, to Instagram and Pinterest, use this system in order to let users describe the topic of their content. Hashtags also allow audiences to search for all content on a particular topic.
- Share: Shares are the foundation of the social media world. The term refers to the number of times individuals share your content, thus exposing it to more users that can become potential audience members. Individuals may comment on your posts, but your end-goal should always be to convince them to share the content with others.
(As a side note, you can find various tools that measure shares and how they impact your content. Just keep in mind that the more shares you have, the more your audience loves your content. When people share what you post, it means that they considered it to be important enough to spread the word about it.)
- Engagement: This term refers to how much people interact with your content. For example, if they leave a “Like” at one of your posts, or if they share or comment on it. Again, while all of these are useful, the most important is how much they share.
That’s it for social media marketing terminology. Now, it’s time to take a look at the most popular platforms available, in order to understand their history, how they were developed, why they are popular at the moment, but also what is the best context for each platform, and how to create content for it.
Facebook is currently the largest social network of all time, with close to 1.5 billion active users.
History: The network appeared in 2004, in a dorm room. Mark Zuckerberg and the co-founders of the website initially intended to make it accessible only to Harvard students, however, he discovered that Facebook had much more potential than they had initially thought.
The founders released Facebook to the public in 2006, after initially expanding to other Ivy League colleges. The website soon exploded, as the number of users grew by the minute.
To say that it has come a long way would be an understatement, especially when considering the number of active users that the network currently has. While it has become the largest social media channel in the world, it is also the most useful tool available to marketers.
To a trained individual, Facebook offers all the information that anyone would ever need in order to organize a great marketing campaign. Furthermore, most users like to share as many details as possible, regarding their lives and their habits.
You can use Facebook ads in order to target any demographic you want. From CEOs who are in their 30s and live in California, to teens that go to high school in a particular region.
In terms of stability, the network grew extremely fast in the last couple of years and continues to do so. It is unlikely that its user numbers will be reduced in the following years.
Context: This network does not restrict you in any way when it comes to content. You can post images, videos, and texts. However, you must pay attention in order to properly integrate your content into the platform.
In essence, you should share content links through Facebook, but upload said content to the network. For example, if you want to redirect users to a landing page, simply publish the page as a tab on your fan page. The more you keep people on the platform, the more successful your marketing campaign will be.
Most people simply post a Youtube video to Facebook in order to share content. Unfortunately, this means that the user is likely to remain on Youtube and be distracted from other content on Facebook.
Also, people trust Facebook and are usually reluctant to move to other websites in order to be able to access content.
Google+
History: Google+ is relatively young when compared to Facebook. Having launched in 2011, it has managed to gather approx. 250 million users. While it may not have had a growth spurt like Zuckerberg’s social network, it is still widely used throughout the world.
The website was Google’s competitive solution to Facebook. While it is not as popular as the latter, it is still one of the largest social networks in the world.
However, the reality of Google+’s success is a bit different. Out of the 250 million users, only about 25 million of them have ever posted on the platform, and only about 6 million are actually active.
Still, Google+ offers a unique advantage: it offers Gmail integration. Users can not simply create a Google+ account, but must create a Gmail address, and then activate the social networking service.
In terms of networking, the social channel revolves around circles. These are practically groups which individuals create in order to categorize other users. One has the option of marking someone as a friend, family member, colleague or anything else.
A great advantage offered by Google+ is the fact that users can add other users as friends(or anything else), upon receiving the notification that they have been added by someone else.
Furthermore, the fact that Google Hangouts is also integrated is great for individuals who host webinars, as it makes connecting with an audience extremely easy.
Context: Google+ is not different from Facebook in terms of what you can post. From texts to images, videos, or polls, the website accepts any kind of content.
This makes it extremely useful if used in conjunction with Facebook, as it may allow you to reach other individuals and circles, and you can practically use the same content. Simply remember not to post links, but the content itself.
If you look at a Youtube channel that has millions of views, then you can be sure that the owner has also set up a Google+ page that is linked to their account. If the social network page shows their video content, and their Youtube account is linked to Google+, then users are bound to cross over and explore both the channel and the profile page. This not only means that a creator can post more content, but also that his reach is greater.
History: This one was destined to be successful, simply because its creators made the right decisions at the right time. They designed a great app that reached 1 million users after only three months since its release.
Furthermore, they did not organize marketing campaigns in order to advertise the app. It was simply so good that it sold itself, so to speak. Also, the iPhone 4 had just been released, and it enabled individuals to take amazing pictures. The only thing that was missing was an app to share them, and this is where Instagram came in.
The network had a 400 million user base after only 5 years. The funny thing is that the app has not changed much. The original formula was perfect from the start, allowing people to post pictures, to tag friends and to insert hashtags.
Two important changes to Instagram that must be mentioned is that it was acquired by Facebook in 2012 and that it has recently started giving every user the possibility to use ads.
Context: The whole network revolves around the concept of posting and sharing pictures, however, you can also record and release 15-second videos. The great design of the app, with its “double-tap to like” option, has made Instagram the network with the highest engagement rate. This is due to the fact that, while Twitter and Facebook also enable users to post and to like pictures, the app makes it extremely easy to interact with content. When you see a picture that you like, you just double-tap on it an continue scrolling.
It is hard to say if pictures or videos should be posted more often, however, it is important to know what your followers want and what is the best way to give them great content. There have been cases of users who have tried posting only videos but did not have any success. However, when they started sharing pictures, their follower count and the number of likes they’ve received sky-rocketed.
As a rule of thumb, if you’re just now beginning to use Instagram, it is best to focus only on pictures. Here are a few types of pictures that are usually appreciated within the community:
- Questions in text form (these are efficient at engaging followers, and they will usually comment on these images);
- Inspiring quotes (these are great because users like and share them regularly);
- Photos of anything that comes from a luxury brand (Instagram users are extremely visual, and if you post a photo of a Lamborghini or a Gucci handbag, they will love the photo);
- Women (again, the network’s users are a visual bunch);
Regardless of your chosen topic or format, remember to use hashtags and calls-to-action. Also, pay attention to what you write in your bio section, as it is the only way that you can link back to your website.
YouTube
History: This social network hit a 1 billion monthly users’ mark in under 10 years. YouTube has essentially become famous for completely redefining the way we consume video content. This is due to the fact that the website is fast (when it comes to streaming) and as a result of how easy it is for users to express their opinion on a video.
Statistics have shown that approx. 200 million hours of videos are viewed on a monthly basis. This enables a large number of individuals to use the website in order to build their careers, and also to create new industries. A clear example is anyone who earns a living by recording how he or she plays video games.
Felix Kjellberg, more commonly known as PewDiePie earned $7.4 million in 2016 alone. And this was just from ads. YouTubers usually also sell merchandise and also use donations in order to earn cash. Felix chose to take the money he has earned and released his own game.
However, there are more ways of making money on YouTube. Robo, a 3-D printer startup earned $4.8 million through the use of video ads and YouTube ads.
The network has practically given anyone the chance of earning money by either teaching various things, sharing DIY tutorials, and posting entertaining videos such as pranks or comedy sketches.
Marketers will find that YouTube is an awesome tool when it comes to sharing long-form content with an audience, or posting blog articles as video tutorials in order to cater to those who do not have the time or patience to read a 3000-4000 word text.
Useful Tip: Keep in mind that the best way to ensure that you have a large number of views to videos is to use other social media channels in order to share previews of your videos. If you do this before posting a video, it will create hype that will probably result in a large number of initial viewers. However, if you share the previews when you post the video, the strategy will allow you to direct fans to your Youtube channel.
Context:
If you want to build a successful Youtube Channel, then you will have two choices. You can either teach viewers different skills, or you can entertain them.
The platform allows users to post videos of any length, so you will be able to share movies or courses, as you see fit.
Do keep in mind, however, that if you plan on creating multiple channels, it would be best to ensure that they have the same core concept. For example, if you choose to start an entertainment channel, it wouldn’t be a good idea to link your other channels’ formats to your main one.
This having been said, don’t let yourself be intimidated by the successful individuals on Youtube that use expensive cameras to record in 4k. Use whatever you’ve got, and make sure that the videos you post never drop in terms of general quality. If you’re disciplined, and you know what your niche is, then chances are that your channel will grow fast.
History:
LinkedIn has been online for longer than Facebook and many other social networks. The website was created by one of the first members of PayPal, Reid Hoffman. It wasn’t an almost instant success as some of the networks presented above, on the contrary it required up to 13 years in order to accumulate a user base of over 400 million members.
The secret to the website’s success was the fact that the founders used a safe strategy. They decided to focus on the elements that were working well and were appreciated. One of these was the website’s homepage which was initially responsible for up to 40% of the signups.
The developers looked for ways to improve the homepage and increased the number of signups to 50% in under four months.
Although the network did not grow extremely fast, it was profitable after only a 3 years, due to the fact that they offered premium subscriptions, a paid job board, and other features. This meant that the developers not only knew how to further improve the network but also had the money to do it.
In the end, LinkedIn offered a few features that could not be found elsewhere, such as the ability to import contacts. The developers focused on catering to the needs of San Francisco’s tech scene and invested in acquiring and integrating other services into the website, like Pulse and Slideshare. These changes helped the company grow in both popularity and as well as in size, up to the point where LinkedIn became a company worth approx. $18 billion.
Context: In order to successfully use LinkedIn, you must first understand that it is essential to be professional. Do not use a casual writing style, and focus on the only thing that matters on this social network: business.
Users aren’t interested in what you did last Sunday unless it was part of a corporate event. They are interested in learning how various industries change, and which companies are currently hiring.
Post slideshares that help others improve their performance at work or that let others know of something that recently happened with a corporation, not what you ate for breakfast.
As a rule of thumb, remember that anything that helps others improve their business will work on LinkedIn. Also, make sure that everything that you post has a professional, mature tone.
History: Reddit has approximately 200 million unique monthly users, which means that most people who spend some time on the internet will know what it is. Like Facebook, the origins of the Reddit are rooted in a college story.
The network is community-driven, which means that other users will attack you if you spam the website, or if you dump promotional links on their boards. Those who are familiar with Reddit will also know that the user base is fair. Should you ever want to share a link to your website on a relevant board, then you will be able to do so without having any problems.
However, do keep in mind that if you ever overstep your bounds and spam post, the Redditors may take down your site. The whole community stands together in situations such as this one, and when asked, they will crash a link and try to access it at the same time. This can render your website inoperable.
Moving on, there are several elements that led to the development of Reddit.
The most important one is that users have the ability to upvote or downvote posts, which means that only quality content will have visibility. If you post great material, then it will be upvoted, which will let other users know that they should take a look at it.
Linked to the above feature is Karma. Accounts are rewarded karma in order to let others know what is the general quality of the content posted by their owners. The karma that an account has is displayed separately for links and text posts. This feature has also been implemented in order to ensure that only quality content survives on the platform.
The platform grew much faster once celebrities appeared and started doing “AMA’s”(Ask me anything). This means that they remained on Reddit for a certain period of time in order to answer any questions that users would post. There are several individuals which we should mention for doing AMA’s: Barrack Obama, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bill Gates. Upon doing these, they contributed to the popularity of the platform and Reddit really took off.
Context: Successfully posting on Reddit and earning the approval of its users is particularly difficult. You cannot use the same strategy that you would on Facebook and post a link every time you want to share content on another platform. You should start by trying to blend in. Communicate with your fellow Redditors and become part of the community, without using the platform in order to gain anything.
Occasionally submit funny content or a few helpful links. Once you do this, your Karma will start to grow, and that will let others know that you post quality material. After you’ve reached a decent karma value, you can start posting some of your content, however, only do so when it is relevant to the board. Also, write the links as a side note, not as part of the post’s content.
Snapchat
History: Snapchat is an extremely dynamic platform with over 100 million daily active users. It is being used by approx. 30% of Americans between the age 13 and 17. The common trait that all of its users have is the fact that they are young. 70% of the user base is comprised of individuals who are under 25 years old.
While many marketers may be tempted to dismiss this platform due to the fact that it is usually used as a channel for hacks, spams, and naked selfies, Snapchat can help you reach a demographic that you would normally not be able to.
The social network was founded in September 2011, and the app is currently worth between $10-20 billion.
Context: Snapchat is the perfect place to market products for teens, however, this does not mean that doing so is easy. The fact that all shared images and videos are deleted after 10 seconds means that the platform is dynamic.
Post similar content. For example, take a few snaps at a conference or at the cocktail party before an event, in order to draw your follower’s attention. You could also give them a ‘behind the scenes’ sneak peek of a corporate event.
Remember that the platform is not for overly mature audiences, so the best way to use it is to think about what teenagers are attracted to and then to give them content centered around that. Concentrate on sharing things that the users would consider cool or funny.
Snapchat has been built on the idea that precious moments are fleeting and must be shared as they take place, so try to do just that. As long as you share things that are special to both you as well as your followers, you can not go wrong.
History: Pinterest is the most popular social media network when it comes to female users. As a result, many marketers will probably consider it a gold mine. With 85% of the 100 million user base being female, the website is perfect for those who want to organize a marketing campaign that targets primarily females.
The website has been open to the public for only 5 years, time in which most individuals who were interested in Pinterest created their accounts.
However, setting up an account is definitely worth the trouble, as Pinterest is currently one of the 10 most influential social platforms currently online. This may seem counter intuitive as the website itself does not make much of a profit.
Context: Sharing on Pinterest is relatively easy, as long as you keep in mind that 85% of the user base is comprised of women. They are the ones who collect, curate and share content. Approach topics such as interior and exterior design, DIY ideas, cooking, clothing, and anything aesthetic.
Also, remember the fact that the layout of the platform is designed around the idea of displaying images vertically. This means that you will have to format your images if you want to post them on Pinterest. However, if you post interesting, aesthetic things, and make sure that your content looks great, the platform becomes an invaluable tool.
Vine
History: it may have occurred to you that newer social media networks have tighter limits in terms of the size of the content that you can share. Facebook will allow you to post the text of up to 60.000 characters, while Twitter limits you to 140 characters, and Snapchat only lets you share 10-second videos. Vine is a new platform and, naturally, it has been designed around the concept of sharing short units of content.
The platform caters to generations that have increasingly shorter attention spans, as this slowly determines the new standard in terms of how we consume content. Vine allows users to post 6-second videos, which can be viewed at any time.
The network was created in June 2012 and was acquired by Twitter five months later, before being officially launched.
Unfortunately Vine is no longer active and has shut down to be integrated completely with Twitter.
Yik Yak
History: Not many people have heard of Yik Yak, however, the network successfully combines concepts found on Reddit, Twitter, and Tinder.
Founded in 2013, by two South Carolina graduates, the platform was initially released only for those who lived on the campus. As time passed, the platform extended its reach and is now available to individuals from over 1600 university campuses.
The core concept of Yik Yak is pretty simple: Users sign in anonymously and have the ability to post 200 character texts. Ok, so far we have the ability to secretly sign in, just like on Reddit, and the restriction regarding posts, similar to the one on Twitter.
The interesting part is that, just like on Tinder, those in the immediate area of the users who posted can either upvote or downvote the message, rewarding them with Yakarma.
The app advertises itself as a channel through which users can meet other people and freely share their thoughts, regardless of subject.
The app’s popularity skyrocketed after only 6 months since its release, becoming the 9th most downloaded social media app in the United States, and building a user base of over 100,000 monthly users. The company currently has 60 employees and has just received funding worth $60 million. All this has happened after less than one year since its release.
Unfortunately Yik Yak is no longer active and was sold for $1 million.
You can see the volatility of social networks and trying to ‘make it big’ with the above to apps. At one time Yik Yak was valued at $70 million, and at the time of shutting its doors, was sold for only $1 million!
Tumblr
History: Tumblr is another media channel that combines elements and formats found in other social networks. In essence, this social network combines a blog, Instagram, and Twitter into something new that the owners call a “microblogging platform”.
The main use of the platform is to curate images that are constantly reblogged by users, in the same sense that Twitter allows for retweets.
Just like on Instagram, the users can scroll down an infinite feed, in order to see the content shared by others.
Tumblr was founded in 2007 and after only 8 years it powered more than 260 million blogs. Equally interesting is the fact that some of these blogs belong to celebrities. There are also entrepreneurs who have successfully used the platform in order to expand their businesses.
Since the microblogging platform was founded, it earned about $125 million, until it was bought by Yahoo in 2013, for $1 billion.
The platform has continued to grow since then, and there are currently over 500 million posts created daily.
Context: Tumblr was designed around the idea of sharing and reblogging images. Its endless scroll feature is proof of this idea. Furthermore, the platform is extremely visual, being a great place for photographers and artists to showcase their creations and build portfolios.
Tumblr is a great tool for fashion brands and for bloggers, as it can be used in order to curate content from specific industries. This having been said, there is more to Tumblr than meets the eye. The website also contains a large number of GIFs (animated images).
If you look closer, you will find that the platform contains many funny memes, animated clips, and even short videos. Combined with the endless feed, these make users consume content at an astounding rate.
Make sure to use Tumblr, if you work in a visual industry, as its design has been built around the idea of helping users showcase their creations.
Medium
History: Another blogging platform, Medium grew into one of the largest sites of its category, in under two years. This is partially due to its sleek, intuitive design that resembles apps like Hemingway to some degree. However, the big difference is that users can press publish directly, and are not required to copy the text to their own blog in order to post it.
Ev Williams, the co-founder of Twitter and the creator of Medium also made Blogger, which was eventually bought by Google. The fact that Medium hosts several big publications is a testament to Williams’ ability to design blog platforms.
For a marketer, Medium can be a valuable tool in building an entire audience, without the need to build a personal website. Some of the most popular topics are marketing, socio-political affairs, startups, and design.
Context: Medium is great for long-form content, considering the fact that it is a blog platform. However, try to avoid long posts. You can use the platform’s feature to estimate reading time for each article in order to determine the perfect length for your content.
Keep in mind that most people tend to ignore posts that take more than 7-10 minutes to read either due to lack of free time, or a short attention span. If you want to tackle a topic that would require a longer post, you can always break it up into shorter fragments and publish them individually.
You can look for Ali Mese on Medium, if you want a great example of someone who has managed to create a huge audience, as a result of his articles going viral.
On the other hand, if you already have a substantial number of followers, you can use them in order to get your articles in the “Featured Stories” section. If you manage to get between 50 and 100 recommends over the course of a couple of hours, chances are that the recommended posts will be featured on the front page where they will be seen by anyone who accesses the website.
The best part is that content that receives a lot of positive feedback on Medium is usually featured on big outlets such as Huffington Post, Entrepreneur, or Business Insider, where it can draw a lot more attention.
This having been said, it is in your interest to create quality content. If you do this, and you manage to have your posts recommended, you will enjoy all the exposure that you will ever need.
Quora
History: Created by two former Facebook employees, the platform has been designed around the idea of Q&A. The concept of a website where anyone could ask a question and receive answers from other users turned out to be exactly what the Internet lacked, and Quora started to rise in popularity.
The platform started with $80 million in funding and managed to build up a user base of over 100 million users in only seven years. People loved the concept, but also the fact that answers can be upvoted or downvoted in order to weed out poor answers.
Quora, as a learning and troubleshooting network, has enabled individuals to create entire platforms from scratch, using the information found on the website.
Although some answers have over a million views, the company is not monetizing the site at the moment, however, preparations towards this goal are underway.
Context: If you want to be successful on Quora then keep in mind that the entire platform revolves around questions asked by users. Do your best to answer as many questions to the best of your abilities, however, you can also look for questions that have been asked multiple times and rephrase the answer.
Make sure that your answers are both correct, as well as easy to understand, in order for other users to upvote them. If they make it to the top of the list, your answers will remain in that position for quite some time. Also, try to give answers that will still be valid a few years from now.
You could also use Quora in order to find ideas on which you can base blog posts or other content. Find a question and then write a comprehensive article or tutorial on your blog, in order to answer it. Once you have published it, place a link to it in your answer and you will cater to the needs of two audiences (Quora and your blog followers).
In time, you will be able to build a reputation for yourself, as being an expert on a topic, due to the fact that most people also browse through other answers that users have given.
Periscope
History: To conclude the lists, we have two particularly young platforms that have been launched only a few years ago. The first one is Periscope, which is a live streaming app.
Created in 2014, the platform enables individuals to use their mobile devices in order to talk to their audience. Those attending have the option of writing comments and reacting to the live feed, which can prove invaluable to anyone who values fast, efficient channels through which to get feedback on a particular subject.
The founders decided to create Periscope after hearing that there were protestors on the streets of Istanbul while they were traveling around the city. They were able to find information on Twitter, however, there were no live feeds.
The creators managed to raise $1.5 million in funding, however, Twitter quickly saw the potential of the new platform and acquired it for $50-100 million before it had a chance to launch. Twitter continues the preparations for its release and helped the app build up a user base of 10 million in only 4 months.
Context: You cannot post content on Periscope as you would on any other platform, as it is based on the concept of live feeds. Naturally, you should always try to use the app to show your fans special, interesting events in your life. Behind the scenes live feeds at various conferences will not only get your fans interested in what you have to offer but will also give them the impression that they are attending the event through Periscope.
You can also organize live feeds for Q&A purposes, which you can make even more attractive by implementing giveaways for those who comment.
The only potential downside is the fact that you must promote the broadcast beforehand, in order to let your fans know that they should tune in. This means that you will need to find an appropriate, attractive title for the feed.
Once you’ve got the title, use other platforms such as Twitter and Facebook in order to spread the news.
Beme
History: Released in 2015 by Casey Neistat, who you might recognize from Youtube, Beme’s goal is to disrupt social media. Neistat stated in the release video of the platform that the app’s purpose is to help users share content that is not filtered, brushed up, and choreographed to perfection.
Beme’s popularity increased at an astounding rate. One week after the app’s closed release, 1.1 million 4 second videos had been posted.
The app works differently than other platforms in the same category. The users must hold their phone to a wall or on their chest in order to activate the device’s proximity sensor and start recording. The interesting part is that you are unable to look at the screen while filming, and anything that you record is instantly shared. This means that you won’t know how the video came out until it’s online.
Drawing inspiration from Snapchat, Beme deletes the video after it has been watched, and also supports reactions in the form of instant selfies(which are also shared instantly).
Another app that has shut down – Beme was bought by CNN and in January 2017 closed it’s doors also.
Conclusion
These have been the 15 most influential social media platforms that you need to know in order to successfully delve into social media marketing. Try to establish an online presence through their use and remember that every one of the networks above requires a different style of content. If you manage to master at least some of them, then you will be able to keep your audience connected and happy.
