Percentage to GPA Converter

Convert a percentage mark onto the 4.0 GPA scale. Everything happens on this page, in your browser — nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

This page uses the widely-used conversion where 93–100% is an A (4.0), 90–92 an A− (3.7), 87–89 a B+ (3.3), and each band below steps down in the same rhythm.

How this tool works

Colleges that think in percentages and colleges that think in grade points constantly have to translate, and the translation is a banding table, not a proportion: 87% is not 87% of 4.0. Each percentage band is assigned a letter, and each letter carries fixed points.

Using it, step by step

  1. Type your percentage mark as a single number, decimals welcome.
  2. Read the band it falls into and the grade points attached to that band.
  3. If you are converting a whole transcript, convert course by course and then average with credit weights in the GPA calculator — averaging percentages first and converting once gives a different, usually wrong, answer.

Where it stops

There is no universal conversion table. The one used here (93 = A) is common in the United States; many Canadian universities start an A at 85, and some systems run to 4.3. For anything official — admissions, scholarships, visas — the receiving institution's own table is the only one that counts.
