Typing Speed Test
Measure your typing speed and accuracy on a set passage. Everything happens on this page, in your browser — nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How this tool works
Typing speed is measured in words per minute, where a 'word' is conventionally five characters including spaces — which is why the figure here may differ slightly from apps that count differently. Accuracy matters as much: a fast, error-strewn passage costs more time in corrections than it saved.
Using it, step by step
- Place your hands, read the first line of the passage, then click the box and start typing; the clock starts on the first keystroke.
- Type steadily rather than sprinting; errors are underlined as you go.
- When the passage is finished, note both figures — speed and accuracy — before trying again.
- Retest after a short break rather than drilling back-to-back; fresh attempts are the honest measure.
Where it stops
One short passage is a snapshot, not a verdict: topic familiarity, keyboard and time of day all move the number. Use it to track your own trend over weeks, not to compare against a classmate's single best run.
